Welcome to SITREP009 - the first SITREP of 2020! This time around, and as the title implies, we've got some new Surveillance and tracking-based functionality for you to take a look at. Additionally, we've got new map updates, new models, and new lore information on display! Sit back and enjoy our newest update.

CCTV

Our new development team member @Kerkkoh (who you will read about later in the SITREP) has hit the ground running with an excellent implementation of an early idea the staff team had in order to give the ISF another leg up when it comes to monitoring the activity of the civilian population and preventing crime within the Bastion - CCTV! The functionality is working as shown in the below YouTube video:

The model for the CCTV camera, made by @Misho:

D2

The D2 (Depository // Dispensary) Machine is the final piece of the banking mod developed by @RoomService, the functionality for which we showed off last SITREP. This machine, which was created and textured by @Misho, essentially acts as an ATM - an interface to check your NCC Credit balance, as well as withdraw and deposit credits.

A video of it's implementation in-game can be found below:

DTAC

We are super excited to introduce to you our DTAC functionality. We've been tossing it around internally for quite some time, but now that we've written some code and created some assets for the system, we'd like to share it with you.

dyerwhite.png

From our internal concept & lore documents:

Quote

"Dyer Dynamics was an American engineering firm, specializing in the research, development, and manufacturing of new technologies for law enforcement and military use. Many of their products and innovations were utilized by NATO and the NCC afterwards. One of these products was the DTAC..."

"...The prototype, dubbed the DTAC (Dyer Tactical & Analytical Computer), was a set of devices that, when put together, provided the user with real-time tactical and operational data and allowed the user to interact with an interface to share data with teammates. Additionally acted as a wVoIP device, replacing radio for team communications. The DTAC ran on a proprietary operating system named DyOS (Dyer Operating System) that utilized mesh networking technology to allow users to act as their own "nodes" and connect with each other seamlessly, rather than using a central node to communicate."

Inspired primarily by the "ISAC" technology in The Division games, the DTAC serves to give the ISF a tactical and organizational advantage compared to civilians, rebellions, and other potential threats to the Bastion. It comes in two parts:

  • The "Interface", which can be any phone or mobile device capable of running the DyOS software. The Interface acts as the central computing hub for collecting and analyzing tactical data, as well as acts as the primary interaction point for the individual operator.
  • The "Display", which is a special set of tactical glasses that provides a heads-up display for important information without having to open the Interface. The Display also tracks operator vitals and comes with an internal microphone for quick, hands-free team communication.

We're super excited about this functionality because it will allow the ISF to be able to perform all of the necessary duties with minimal out-of-game interaction, such as scanning and collating citizen data (being able to check someone's "ID" in-game and pull information from the website). We hope that this will increase immersion greatly, as ISF will be more involved in-game rather than having to juggle multiple out-of-game applications, which, in turn, will make their RP more fluid and engaging for citizens.

We do not yet have screenshots of the Display; however, the Interface model is already completed! Dyer Dynamics has developed a mobile device that has hardware tailored specifically to run DyOS optimally. Introducing the Dyerphone V2, made by @Divinefury:

But wait; the models look great, but where's the actual functionality? Right here.

The video above shows off just one part of the functionality included with the DTAC - active operator tracking, meaning the positions of those who are part of your squad will always be available to you. DTAC also comes with a full team ranking suite, allowing the ISF to self-organize easily and without hassle, as seen below.

DrTIAUs.gif

Ranks may be subject to change.

Our end goal with the DTAC functionality is for it to be fully integrated with the website, so we are able to pull citizen records directly from the Characters application on the forums and use them in-game. Luckily, @Buckeyes, our in-house back-end web developer, is on the case.

Web Work

@Buckeyes wrote some code for our backend server to expose database information from the forum for use within the server. This will allow our in-game server to get live information from the forum and keep in-game information synced with the characters that are being created there. This creates a seamless experience for the players as their characters created on the forum will be linked through their Steam ID and loaded upon entry to the server. These changes give our developers endless possibilities with what else they can do with the character information in game and we are excited to see where these changes will be used!

Buckeyes also modified a bit of the code for the characters application on the forum, allowing more than one character to be marked as active per person. This is still under development, so be careful! Currently, the only way to deactivate characters is to contact an admin or to delete your character. This will be resolved soon and there will be an option to deactivate characters, as well as a limit of 3 active characters per person. This is exciting as it allows players to have multiple characters active in the population and be available for playing and public viewing on the forum.

Lore Updates

The Lore Team has been hard at work in the New Year, adding to the ever-growing Archives section. In particular, @Sylva has finished the first part of his instalments on post-war North America, which starts with the Second Republic of Texas.  @K-Jack and @marvolohave completed articles on the lore's main faction, the NATO-CSTO Coalition and a major event, The Great Winteras well as three Zone articles: Zone 1: Panacea, Zone 9: Great Italy, and Zone 15: Kingdom of Iberia. @Xavieris putting some finishing touches to an article about the Democratic Republic of Australia; expect to see it released very soon.

If you're interested in joining the lore team or contributing to the lore, applications are open. At current, the team is working on fleshing out Bastions and Zones for player backstories. Our lore has changed a fair amount since we first released the main lore, so marvolo will be updating the main lore to reflect these changes within the next week. Below is the Lore Team's map of Zones; the current plan involves an article for each zone, as well as for each "Administrative Capital" Bastion for the zone.

Map Updates

As always, our talented mapper @ZeRoY has been hard at work developing the inner city of Korolgrad, which is where most players will spend most of their time. He's already posted a laundry list of screenshots in our Discord (which you should join if you haven't already!) but here are a few more for good measure.

And here's a barrier, made by @Misho.

Staff Changes

We have a new member of our staff team: @Kerkkoh!

Kerkkoh
Developer

Kerkkoh is a self-described DayZ development jack of all trades, master of none (his words, not ours! he's great), who dabbles in modeling, terrain development, and scripting. His background is in Arma 3 development, but he has worked with modding DayZ from the exact day that DayZ's server files were released. He will work at BastionRP on anything needed in order to release the project as soon as possible.

Additionally, @Misho has rejoined the team, hitting the ground running with multiple contributions to our growing set of custom assets and models. We're super excited to have him back!

Where We're Going

Where are we going? Is a question that I'm sure many of you are asking at this point. It's no secret that SITREPs have become less consistent, the activity has died down, and the project seems stagnant. We hope that by showing you the progress we've made over the past couple of months, we can assure you that we aren't going anywhere. Even if this project releases to no fanfare (we will make sure it does), this project will be finished and we will meet the goals that we set ourselves off towards back in July of 2019 - to truly make this the next evolution that DayZ roleplay needs in order to stay fresh, engaging, and fun. The leadership team at Bastion is working hard to figure out internal progress trackers so that we can get a better handle on just how much work we have ahead of us, so that we can start planning for our initial Alpha release. More on this next SITREP.

On that note, we'd like to report that we are coming close to a completed & playable initial city. This means that, while we still have plenty of work to do on the map to make it everything we wanted to be, we will be at a point where the BastionRP experience can be playable. Once we reach that point, expect another round of Closed Testing invites to go out 🙂

Thank you to everyone who continues to read our SITREPs and show interest in the project. You keep us going.
