Hello BastionRP; welcome to the sixth community SITREP. This won't be as long as you may be used to, as our staff and development team are all hands on deck with lots of behind-the-scenes development of functionality (automatic whitelist scripting, website to game server integrations) and content (rules, closed testing timelines) that isn't meant to be shown off to the public. However, we still have some quality tidbits of information as well as screenshots of some of the work we have done since the last SITREP. Let's get started!

Closed Testing

Thank you for being so patient with us! We have finally set a hard date for testing, which will begin on the 18th of October, starting at 7PM EST and lasting through the weekend. This test will be primarily focused on running around the map, testing out some of the custom assets and functionality (MultiCharacters, Whitelisting systems), and allowing people to finally get their hands on what we've been working so hard on! A full thread that will lay out a Closed Testing Roadmap is coming in a separate thread on the 17th!

 

Lore Team

Many of you have been waiting on updates to the lore for a while now, and unfortunately you're going to have to wait a little longer to see exactly what our team's been up to for the past couple of months. Implementation of "The Archives" (seen in SITREP 005) is one of many projects that have been put on the back-burner due to our impending Closed Alpha deadline. We aren't comfortable with settling for less, and if delaying releases is what it takes to ensure the end result is up to our standards, we have to do that.

What we do want to give you, however, is a brief overview on what you can expect come release:

  • All major* Bastions added to the world map with specific lore for multiple of them
  • Some minor* Bastions added to the world map
  • NCC pre-war regions used to name the Bastions (e.g. the "0" in Korolgrad's "023" refers to the region of Eastern Europe)
  • NCC/ISF post-war lore - including formation, leadership, structure, etc (from @K-Jack)
  • General world lore filling out some gaps in the main lore (from @marvolo)
  • Lore on Australia, and possibly Oceania as a whole (from @Xavier)
  • Lore for West Coast USA, as well as for an anti-NCC faction based in Texas (from @Sylva)
  • A timeline for easy navigation of key events

As you might have already seen by the Lore Team rank on the forums or the multiple names tagged above, we're dealing with lore creation in a slightly different way in BastionRP. In order to better explain this, Administrator and leader of this team, marvolo, has written this next section:

"What we're trying to achieve with this lore is pretty ambitious - we're essentially creating an alternate timeline for our world that extends 20 years into the future. This means that simply placing our Bastions, writing our main lore, and calling it a day isn't going to be good enough. We're going to need to write a lot of lore, and we're going to need a lot of people to write that lore. This calls for a different approach, one that is community-centered and collaborative in nature.

For that, we have the Lore Team. The rank itself won't confer any cool benefits on the forums, but it will allow you to get involved with the lore creation process via private forums and channels on our Discord. In order to write what you need to write, members be provided with some information normally unavailable to regular people. Joining the team doesn't require you to be staff, but you will need to write something based on our lore before joining.

The team doesn't require you to be staff, so anyone is eligible. Everyone within the team has their own focus, and you can choose what to write as long as it helps flesh out our world. Everyone in the team will be fully credited for their contributions, and the lore they've written will be hosted directly on the Archives for the entire community to see and explore. Multicharacter Complete

Our Lead Developer @RoomService has been hard at work refining and bugfixing MultiCharacter, the first in many mods created fully in-house for BastionRP. It's been a month of frustrating work, and we'd like to congratulate him on its completion. Since SITREP 004 when we first discussed MultiCharacter, new features have been added, strange bugs have been squashed, and we've arrived at a point where we can release it.

The final major feature of this functionality was the Character Creator:

This marks a significant milestone for us, as this was a hugely important piece of functionality that we can now set aside to focus on other projects.

One bug that we can't seem to get rid of is the survivor faces shown at 2:22 not being displayed properly. We've come to internally refer to this as the "Michael Myers" bug, and we're yet to find a fix. It usually resolves itself after respawning, and since it doesn't affect in-game models, we're releasing this as is.

Military Fleece

We have been working closely with the venerated clothing artist Windstride in order to create clothing for both ISF and Civilian players, starting with this Military Fleece Jacket.

A wind-resistant jacket with an abrasion resistant collar and shoulders, the Military Fleece acts as a dependable outer shell for the modern operator.

 

Underground, Part II

The work on the Underground section of Korolgrad continues! This time around, @Divinefury & @ZeRoY have been working on two new structures that are important to round out the sewers and turn them into a fully-fledged, realistic section of the map. First, we have the Utility Room, a (currently) empty room that can be used for a variety of seedy activities:

Quality Pass

The wondrous @Hop spent some time since last SITREP doing a quality pass on many of our weapons in order to make sure they are fully working and game-ready. This has included some re-textures. Here's a little sneak peek:

Thanks, Juggs!

Our plan is to go through Closed Testing, then release to everyone in an "Open Alpha". Once we are at a point where we feel we are mostly feature complete, we will do a full 1.0 release and shift our focus to a full marketing campaign.

So yes, I suppose you could consider Open Alpha to be a sort of open testing period. :)
