Greetings community members! Welcome to the fourth SITREP for BastionRP, and aptly titled, too; as you can see from the banner, we have made some excellent strides due to our wonderful and dedicated development team, the details of which we are very excited to share with you. Progress in the development department is not all we have, we also bring a whole host of details to share from almost every department, this includes: the highly anticipated full release of the primary server lore, the release of our whitelist application and NCC/ISF application, information on how to apply for the staff team, and (finally!) an update on the closed testing sessions that we will be holding and how to apply and get involved in them.

This one's going to be a long one, so brew up a cup of Joe, buckle in, and enjoy our fourth SITREP!

Lore Complete

The first topic of discussion for this SITREP is the Official BastionRP Lore. We know you have all been patiently waiting for the lore to release so you can get a definitive answer on a lot of your burning questions, and begin conceptualizing backstories and characters that will mesh well with our community's lore. For that reason, we have placed releasing the BastionRP lore as soon as possible at the top of our list of priorities.

@marvolo has been hard at work since the project's inception in early July. Since then, he has amassed over 40 pages of research and drafts that have been iterated and refined into an excellent final product that we can be proud to present to the community. Since @Sylvajoined the staff team in our last SITREP, he has been non-stop writing, reading, and breathing this lore to ensure it could become the best it can possibly be. It took us a while, but it's finally done - we present to you the Official Lore for BastionRP.

Be advised that this is not a feature complete lore for all elements of BastionRP, just the basics that are required for the whitelist. We still have more secondary lore on the way regarding the history of the NCC as well as supplementary lore on the world at large, other active Bastions around the world and the factions that inhabit the wasteland outside of their walls, and stories from before, during, and after the war which should fill in some gaps.

@Cipher plans on creating a custom page to house our lore in very soon, and accompanying that should be spoken audio versions of the lore for those of you that just don't like reading.

Introducing the ISF

Obviously, the faction in the spotlight of BastionRP's lore is the "NCC" - that is, NATO-CSTO Coalition. We have refined our lore for the NCC, and wish to introduce the organization that will keep citizens safe when the server launches. Introducing the NCC's Internal Security Forces (ISF). Founded soon after the Bastion Contingency was established, the ISF was created to fully secure and control Bastions all around the world. Trained extensively in urban warfare and riot control, and armed with all manner of lethal and nonlethal weapons and state-of-the-art surveillance technology, they represent the first and only line of defense against both internal and external threats.

Our extremely dedicated developer @Hop (who has been streaming this stuff over on Twitchhas been hard at work to put together a uniform and kit that reflects the above mission statement and history, and in this SITREP, we are proud to share it all with you.

fbmHGrq.png

The ISF's Standard Issue Uniform, which currently utilizes a modified urban camouflage, starts with a military-grade jacket, BDU pants, hard-knuckle gloves, and either trainers or military boots, depending on assignment.  A fully customizable MOLLE leg rig is then attached, complete with holster and pouches. The uniform also includes a fully customizable plate carrier, loaded with magazines, medical supplies, and other necessities for twelve-hour-plus shifts in the city. Finally, depending on situation, a baseball cap, watch cap, or tactical helmet can be worn with the uniform. White berets stitched with the NCC's insignia are given to commissioned officers.

1z671v5.png

Much like the uniform, the loadout of the ISF is adjustable to fit the situation and environment of the trooper. Almost all ISF troopers carry the standard-issue handgun, the CSP-9, a modified version of the MP443 Grach, chambered in 9mm and stamped with NCC identifiable markers.

kgtvJ06.png

t7H7BWz.png

For non-lethal scenarios, troopers on duty are required to carry the CSES, a high-voltage stun baton designed to incapacitate any threat with a few well placed blows.

bivzICP.png

Most troopers on patrol also carry the CSC-45, a modified version of the APC9K, chambered in .45ACP and also stamped with the NCC's insignia and markers.

B53bmfy.png

Tb6AS1v.png

For those who require a more versatile weapon with more stopping power and range to boot, an ISF trooper has to look no further than the CSR-556, an NCC-manufactured firearm derived from the Polish-designed MSBS-5.56 rifle, which is fully customizable for long-range or close-quarter engagements.

ssF3K2v.png

dY954Fx.png

In the case of a catastrophic event (a terrorist attack, loss of control in a sector, break of quarantine, etc.), the Direct Action & Response Team (DARTs) are dispatched. They are usually outfitted with a heavier kit and more ammunition and supplies, as well as a black uniform to alert both Bastion citizens and potential threats to their presence. Either way, you don't want to get in their way.

Z4Zjf9T.png

This all comes together to form a uniform and loadout that is highly effective - and sleek-looking, if we do say so ourselves - in almost any scenario. We're proud of it, and we hope you are, too.

Don't believe us? Here's some more proof:

Apply for Whitelist

We're sure the one thing on everyone's minds is how exactly to apply for and get approved for the BastionRP Whitelist in order to access the game servers. Fortunately, applying is quite simple!

Navigate to the "Apply" section of the forums and click on "Apply for Whitelisting", or click this link. Read through the application process and answer each question as completely and honestly as you can. Submit the application when you are finished, and you will receive a message with a decision within a few days. If accepted, you will be whitelisted on our community!

Join the ISF

We are also opening up applications for those who are interested in setting the standard for enforcer roleplay by joining the NCC's Internal Security Forces. We are looking primarily for those who we call "hybrids" - those who consider roleplay their top priority, and can carry an interaction, but can also roll their sleeves up and hold their own in a firefight should the time come. If you think you've got what it takes, the process for applying to the ISF is simple!

Simply navigate to the "Apply" section of the forums and click on "Apply for ISF", or click this link. Read through the application process and answer each question as completely and honestly as you can. Submit the application when you are finished, and you will receive a message with a decision within a few days. If accepted, you will be brought into our community TeamSpeak for an interview, followed up by in-game training if that goes well.

If you have any questions or concerns about the ISF's whitelisting and training program, feel free to contact @Strider, who will be heading up the ISF for the foreseeable future.

Apply for Staff

We are opening up our staff applications for those looking to do even more for the community. Anyone who has a level-headed, community-first mindset, and can act professionally and impartially in any situation are encouraged to apply. First, navigate to the "Apply" section of the forums and click on "Apply for Staff", or click this link. Read through the application process and answer each question as completely and honestly as you can.

Then, submit the application to the BastionRP staff team. Your request will be looked over by members of the team and you will be informed of our decision soon after. Do note that becoming a BastionRP staff member would put you in the Support position, with your own hard work and dedication being what puts you up for promotion to the further ranks!

Closed Testing Sessions

Now we bring you some more exciting news that we're sure you've been waiting for; the Closed Testing Sessions. These sessions, which will currently only be open to those who have contributed to BastionRP, will likely last anywhere from a few hours to a few days or weeks for each individual session, and will be used for a variety of purposes. The first few sessions will be focused on noting down technical issues - spawns not being set correctly, problems with whitelisting, stress testing the server, and running through the map in order to try and break things. Once we are at a comfortable spot technically, we will start getting into fine tuning the gameplay experience. This includes issues such as the economy - how much or how little loot should we spawn for a good gameplay experience? How much is a ration card worth, both on paper and on the streets of Korolgrad? How long does it take to acquire enough gear to be dangerous? We will also address how the NCC operates in game - how much aggression is too much? How much leeway is too much? Is the NCC's presence exciting or frustrating? Finally, we will be addressing the most important aspect - fun. Is the server fun to play? What issues are players running into, beyond the ones that we have set? What do we need to do in order to feel confident releasing a gameplay experience like this to the world? These are the many questions that we will ask ourselves over the duration of these sessions, which should last anywhere between a couple of weeks to two months depending on how well the sessions go, and how fast we can reach a comfortable "Alpha" stage.

Please, be advised - while our aim is always to have fun here at BastionRP, these sessions are not purely for enjoyment. We expect testers to be actively looking for and reporting technical issues or bugs, as well as providing active feedback about the gameplay experience after each session. If you do not wish to participate in the feedback gathering and bug tracking of the sessions, then please, do not apply for the testing sessions. We assure you that the wait for alpha will be worth it.

Because of the likelihood of bugs, glitches, and lots of broken or otherwise unfinished content during these Closed Testing Sessions, we ask that anyone who opts into the Closed Testing Sessions does not distribute the contents of the the sessions to YouTube, Twitch, or any other platform. Opting into the sessions and then failing to follow the above rule will result in a suspension of your forum and Discord access until our open Alpha release.

For those that wish to apply for the Closed Testing Sessions, there will be a form under the "Apply" section of the website titled "Apply for Closed Testing Sessions". Please navigate there to sign up. Alternatively, click this link. Please be advised, you will not have access to this form if you have not contributed to the website.

MultiCharacter

Alright, now that the boring stuff is out of the way, back to new content. Our excellent Lead Developer @RoomService has been cooking up another absolutely incredible mod, and I do mean incredible.

niMmCWX.png

Introducing Multicharacter by BastionRP.com - this mod brings one of the most sought-after features to life - the ability to have multiple characters per server, per hive. We'd explain the rest, but we think the video does a good enough job.

We at BastionRP are developing two versions of this mod - the version you see above is for public release, branded as an official BastionRP.com modification. The second version is one specifically tailored to our needs at BastionRP, so that NCC-whitelisted players can play on their civilian characters if the NCC slots are all full. We plan on releasing this mod to the public along with our public alpha launch, so that even players outside of BastionRP can thrive using our creations.

Map Updates

Last but certainly not least in modification updates, our mapper, @ZeRoY, has made some significant strides in the map, specifically the underground portion. You heard that right; our map, Korolgrad, will have a fully-realized sewer and metro station under the city, which we hope will become host to a variety of seedy roleplay that can only exist outside of the watchful eye of the ISF.
8ye0gHU.png

OHK1kC9.png

Zeroy has also imported some extra aesthetic props, such as gates, barriers, and other road props to liven up the city and further differentiate our map from others.

Staff Changes

We've got two updates for you in this department!

Firstly, our very dedicated Operator, @marvolo, has done such excellent work on the lore and in other disciplines that he has been promoted to Administrator. We are extremely excited to be able to use his expertise in a more wide range of areas at BastionRP, especially now that the bulk of the lore is released.

Secondly, we have a new member of our staff team: @Buckeyes!

Buckeyes
Developer

Buckeyes joins the team as a developer, and although he is new to DayZ Development, he has experience roleplaying and developing for FiveM / GTA V and is excited to work on the DayZ platform. He's a 21-year-old college graduate with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering from The Ohio State University and now works as a professional software developer. As a member of the BastionRP Development Team, he hopes to bring new and exciting features to the community!

From the Director
Hey guys, @Cipher here. I just wanted to share with you some information about the general state of the community.

This SITREP represents the earmark of some significant milestones for us. We are seeing more interaction on the community forums and the Discord than we have ever seen, and it should continue to grow. We recently surpassed our member growth rate for August, with 74 signups so far this month, surpassing last month's signups (59) in less than half the time.

Our staff team has grown tremendously since the beginning of this community's inception, rising from three staff members (and zero developers) to almost twenty in the matter of a couple of months. The majority of these weren't just hires to fill seats, either; I am very proud to say that for a project in which most people are volunteers, we have seen a staggering amount of passion and hard work from every rank of the team. I do not feel like I am exaggerating when I say that I honestly feel we have the best staff and development team that any roleplaying community has seen in years.

As you've read above, our lore team has worked tirelessly for two months to bring you our version of the end of the world, which was our own little version of hell in itself. The staff forums and Discord are filled with countless arguments about every detail, such as whether our infection should be named or not, or how large the blast radius of a cobalt bomb would be if detonated at 100 meters above the ground, or how long it might take for a cold war to escalate to a hot war. These discussions and arguments have whittled down over forty pages of research and drafts (forty!) into a short, concise, and readable lore that will act as the foundation for the stories we will create, and I cannot thank them enough for their dozens of hours worth of efforts.

As I'm sure you know, creating a community period is no easy task, let alone one with a concept entirely unique to DayZ, requiring the development of custom functionality, a custom map, and custom models and textures to support that concept. However, the strides we have made in this department over the past couple of months cannot be understated. We have taken a 100 square kilometer section of satellite data from Austria and are well underway to crafting it into a completely custom terrain for the express usage of our community - something no other community can say. We have created and imported dozens of custom clothing items, weapons, buildings, props, and other assets for use by and for our community, and some of the most talented developers the DayZ modding scene has to offer have been working practically nonstop to create functionality that will refine and streamline both gameplay and RP.

Some communities may see this as positives to keep exclusive in order to give their community a leg up; and we've thought about it. However, we have bigger aspirations - not just for us, but for the DayZ community at large - and that's why we plan on releasing all BastionRP content to the public via the Steam Workshop. We want BastionRP to be more than just a niche roleplaying community living on the fringes of the larger DayZ scene. DayZ and the Enfusion Engine it is built on is growing; and we want to become a major player in the field as it does, so that even DayZ players that have never and will never roleplay in their lives can and will benefit from our community. More on exactly how this content will be rolled out to the Workshop will be released in the next SITREP.

Finally, I'd like to shed some light on the last, but certainly not least, milestone: you.

As cliche as it may sound, this community is for you, the people who inhabit it. Whether you are a veteran from other roleplaying communities or if this is your first, we appreciate the substantial contributions you all have given to a community that doesn't even have a live server yet. The donations and purchases of Forum Privilege Packages, as well as the conversations, questions, and praise you give to our community forums and Discord all contribute to our vision of an active and supportive community for the next evolution of DayZ Roleplay. Needless to say, we would not be around if it weren't for you, and so I speak for the entire staff team when I say, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for your support.

I cannot wait to see the stories we create together.
